ATAKA is pleased to present “Jasper Morrison: Works 1980s–2000s and Watering Jug”, an exhibition and pre-order event for British product designer Jasper Morrison.
Renowned British product designer Jasper Morrison has been creating furniture, lighting, tableware, and everyday objects since the 1980s. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore Morrison’s early works—including Thinking Man’s Chair, his Plywood Chair designed in reaction to the postmodern “Memphis” movement, and his iconic, universally appreciated Glo-ball lighting—alongside related publications. Through these works, we invite visitors to reflect on the essence of design.
Morrison, together with Naoto Fukasawa, introduced the influential concept of Super Normal, which continues to shape the contemporary design landscape. We hope this exhibition serves as a chance to revisit and rethink the relevance of Super Normal today. Select products will be available for purchase.
In conjunction, we will host the first domestic pre-order event event for the Watering Jug, designed in collaboration with Negishi Industry in 2019 as part of the “Sumida Contemporary” project in Sumida, Tokyo.
Negishi Industry is Japan’s only remaining manufacturer of bonsai watering cans, continuing a legacy of handcrafted precision across generations. Initially hesitant to intervene in a form already perfected, Morrison ultimately arrived at a design suited for everyday use in the home.
We warmly invite you to visit and experience this special occasion.
